The key questions I ask are as follows.

Where did Jesus’ ideas come from? What did he teach and was this different to what the Gospel writers and St Paul said he taught? How did Jesus’ teaching become widely known in the Roman Empire? How was Jesus’ story spread into Northern Europe in the Dark Ages? What was Christianity like in the Middle Ages? What happened at the Reformation and in the following three hundred years? Where are we today, and is there a need for another new sense of direction?

I explore Jesus’ Story from the point of view of an ordinary person educated in an age of science and technology, and I set down my own thoughts so that others can examine them and identify where they agree with me and where they have a different understanding of the facts of the case. I have no assumption that others will see things as I do, and if anything, this is an important message to everyone today. Christians generally examine the teaching of Jesus as searchers hoping to gain a personal understanding about what life is all about, but individual Christians are inspired by different things, and they don’t all necessarily accept every aspect of Christian doctrine.

Jesus' Story aims to encourage a wider debate about Christianity and its relevance in the world today than is generally encouraged in most British churches. At the veryleast, Jesus' Story will stimlate the thoughts of the reader, and assist he or her to refine their own thoughts on this extremely controversial subject, whether they are born-again Christians, atheists, or followers of other religions.
